Everyone has an Inner Troll, but some people’s Inner Trolls like to throw their weight around more than others.
A put down is when someone is trying to make you feel small, or bad or manipulate you, but it’s said in such a way that they can deny any bad intentions.
Work-life balance can be a cliche, but many of us feel torn between doing our best with work and spending quality time with those we love.
Human beings are hard-wired to compete and compare, and it’s perfectly natural. That doesn’t mean it’s going to make you happy.
When I’m coaching freelancers and business owners I often see them try something once, not get much response and conclude that the strategy isn’t working and they should give up.
Most people find themselves ruminating from time to time, especially when stressed. This is particularly common in the middle of the night, when the logical brain is more shut down and sleepy. At these times the Inner Troll, or more reactive part of the brain, can more easily take over.
Do you procrastinate because because you have a fear of failure? Perhaps it’s because you are secretly worried about succeeding?
Do you find yourself thinking any of these things?
‘I just need to clear my desk before I get started.’
‘I’ll start by dealing with my email, ease myself into the day.’
‘How on earth did it get to 6pm and I haven’t actually got anything done?!’
If so, you probably already know you’re prone to procrastination. This habit of putting things off until the last minute can be a minor irritation for some people, and a major problem for others.
I used to believe that I could thrive on being busy. Powering through to do lists made me feel energised and productive.
