Life, career, and business CoacH for elt professionals
Hi, I’m Rachael.
I’ve been working within ELT for thirty years now, as a teacher, teacher trainer, manager and materials writer but I’d never actually planned on being a teacher. Not least because I’m actually quite shy.
However, when I was 21 I decided to take a year ‘out’ and go and teach abroad, mainly for the experience of travelling. I was initially a bit worried about the teaching bit, but I soon realised that I had actually found what I wanted to do, as I discovered the joy of seeing lightbulbs go on for other people as a result of my help and guidance.
Like many educators who are passionate about their jobs, my enthusiasm and motivation (together with a hefty portion of self-criticism, fear of being rejected and over-perfectionism) eventually led to me burning out not once, but twice.
After the second time I realised that, while my employers definitely had some responsibility, I also had to learn how to look after myself better and overcome the fears and unhelpful beliefs that were causing me to take too much on.
This path eventually led me to training as a psychotherapist and counsellor. I used these skills in my work as a manager and teacher trainer, but it would be another 15 years before I finally realised that what I had most loved about every job I’d had was the interaction with others and the joy of watching them grow.
So, in 2017 I went back and refreshed my training with a Diploma in Coaching. Initially I called myself a life coach, but after a while I realised that a large part of what I was doing was career and small business coaching, passing on everything I’d learnt from having business coaching myself, and my 12 years’ experience as a small business owner, and 25+ years’ experience in the ELT world.
”Rachael worked with me to rediscover my strengths and to recognise the choices I have and the power to make them. I feel not just more confident but almost renewed.”
Why Work With Me?
Maybe you are feeling completely overwhelmed at work and fear you may be heading for burnout. I’ve been there.
Maybe you need some clarity about where your career is heading.
Maybe you’re a freelancer or considering going freelance or setting up your own business, and want some help to get consistent clients, charge what you’re worth, and get your name out there.
Maybe you know you’re getting in your own way, self-sabotaging or just holding yourself back, whether at work, or in your relationships, or in your relationship with yourself.
If you don’t change something, nothing will change.
At the moment I am fully working online, but this is my coaching space if you happen to be local!
experience and qualifications
I have been teaching, training and coaching for 30 years now, in a variety of settings: private and public sector, the UK and abroad, in teaching, training and management roles. I have a Certificate in Counselling and successfully completed a two year Diploma in Rogerian Person Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy, but due to unexpected life changes, did not manage to complete the 150 required hours practice at that time. Subsequently I qualified as a Life Coach through the Warwick University Diploma in Coaching. I am a full member of the Association for Coaching.
In addition I am a qualified teacher of Meditation, T’ai Chi and Chi Gung.
As seen in…..
Do you need a life coach?
